FORMAT
- The course is five times around the flat 1K loop on the river trail.
RULES
- Power Walk athletes must not wear clothing that could impede the view of the judges.
- No canes, walkers, headphones, cell phone or water bottles allowed during the event.
- Power Walknumbers must be worn on the front and back and must be visible at all times.
- Power Walk is a Monitored Event in which an athlete can be disqualified
- Major points of the rules include:
- a) One foot must be on the ground at all times. Loss of contact with the ground is forbidden.
- e) Running or jogging mode is forbidden.
- Power Walk athletes must use proper power-walking techniques or risk disqualification.
- Your knee may be straightened or bent at heel strike.
- An athlete is disqualified when three separate judges determine the athlete is in violation of the definition of Power Walking
- Any violation in the last 100 meters, as determined by a single judge, results in immediate disqualification.

- Oklahoma is an “Open” state. This means Oklahoma Senior Games allows participation by out-of-state athletes. The NSGA definition of an athlete’s state of residence is that state in which the athlete resides at least six months of the year.
- Power Walk is an “OPEN” event. This means that qualification is NOT needed to participate in the 2027 National Senior Games Championships in Tulsa.
2026 is a qualifying year to participate in the 2027 National Senior Games presented by Humana in Tulsa, OK.
5K Power Walk is an OPEN sport at Nationals. Athletes do not need to qualify to compete in this sport. Participation inState Senior Games gives you the opportunity to compete in preparation for Nationals.
A special opportunity is available to Oklahoma residents for National Senior Games sports that require qualifying. All Oklahoma residents who participate in select events at the 2026 Oklahoma Senior Games will automatically qualify to participate in that event at the 2027 National Senior Games presented by Humana. Please see the rule below for details.
HOST STATE QUALIFICATION: All in-state athletes who compete in designated qualifying sports at the 2026 Oklahoma Senior Games will qualify for the 2027 National Senior Games. Host State Qualification applies to the following qualifyingsports at the 2026 Oklahoma Senior Games: Archery, Badminton, 3-on-3 Basketball, Bowling, Cycling, Golf, Road Race,
Shuffleboard, Softball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Track & Field, Triathlon, Volleyball. An in-state athlete is defined as anathlete who resides in Oklahoma for at least six months of the year. In-state status will be determined by the athlete’s address on file with NSGA.
